When our partners heard that you were going to provide for Promise, one of them sent us this voice message. This is for you!
the man would not pay for the food and would blame Annet for stealing money from his house. Annet was afraid and kept silent.
A few weeks after the incident, she started falling sick. When she was taken to the clinic for a check up, they ran a couple of tests including a pregnancy test which came out positive. Annet was shocked to know she was pregnant. She tried to explain how the customer raped and threatened her not to tell anyone about it. No one seemed to believe her story. Since she is an adolescent, they suspected she had been involved in sexual relationships with men and just didn't want to disclose the truth. Her boss was so angry that he chased her from work.
Her father was also angry and blamed Annet's mother for failing to raise their daughter well. She was called a prostitute. He threw them out of the house but they had nowhere to go. For more than 5 days, Annet and her mother were sleeping outside in the cold. They could only access their home during the day when the father was away working in the garden. Annet's father gave her a condition that if she wanted to be forgiven, she needed to move in with the man who was responsible for her pregnancy in exchange for bride price. The father was not interested in pursuing the case of rape - he never believed that his daughter was raped.
A Village Health Team Volunteer met Annet during a community outreach activity and when she got to learn about her story, she followed up and reported the case to police, and referred Annet to the probation office. Annet was then rescued by The Remnant Generation and brought to our Princess Shelter in Lyantonde. By the time she joined the shelter last year, she was 3 months pregnant.
When Annet finally delivered her new baby via c-section, the doctors noted that the baby had several conditions that were abnormal:
•Club foot
• Anal Fistula
•Arms and fingers are misdeveloped
•Signs of congenital heart disease
•Signs of Down syndrome
The doctors have installed a stoma to allow baby Promise to process food properly
Annet and baby Promise are now stable and recovering from surgery. Baby Promise will need many reconstructive surguries and a heart surgury in the coming months.
In some countries, the medical care to ensure that baby Promise can survive may be readily available but in Uganda, Annet is facing a seemingly impossible price tag for her daughter’s life.
With no job and no family, Annet and her precious daughter Promise can only pray for a miracle of provision.
Together, we can rescue Promise and give her the medical care that she needs to thrive. After speaking with the doctors, we expect the surgeries, tests, and treatments will cost $9,081 USD.
Today, let’s rescue Promise!
